Citroen C Zero electric vehicle car

Conservative Party controlled Tamworth Borough Council has just taken delivery of a new eco friendly Citroen C-Zero fully electric car to help their Street wardens to patrol the streets of Tamworth.

Conservative Party Councillor Jeremy Oates, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said, “We are keen to promote transport which is environmentally friendly.  The street wardens are ideally suited to use an electric vehicle due to the large areas they cover.

“The car is fully electric, which will have a positive impact on the environment.  I am delighted that the wardens are now driving around in this clean and green car.”

As well as helping the street wardens to cover the often wide areas of their patrols, the new car will help Tamworth Borough Council save up to £2,700 in fuel and lease charges over three years, as well as benefitting the environment.

The car is being heavily subsidised by Citroen and in addition, will produce no harmful emissions.  According to the wardens, the new electric car will be ideal for late night patrols, responding to environmental issues, visiting schools and community events.

A new charging point has been installed in the underground car park near to the Riverside flats, funded by a Government grant scheme, which has refunded £600 on the installation fees for the SMART charging point.

The new electric car is put on charge every night, and one full charge allows it to travel around 60 miles.

The wardens, who have now been patrolling the streets of Tamworth for ten years, have proved a valuable tool in reducing the fear of crime and providing a presence across the entire borough.
