Second Community Activity Day – Saturday 17th November

Residents are invited to a family friendly community activity day at Tamworth BMX track on Saturday 17th November taking place between 11am to 3pm.

Tamworth BMX track and nature area has been created following a Big Lottery and Groundwork UK grant of nearly £50,000, with further support from Tamworth Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council the now popular facility was built.

As well as construction of the track, part of the funding is to carry out community led improvements to the site.  The upcoming activity day will see many local residents rolling up their selves and helping to improve the area around the track.  There is daffodil, tulip and hyacinth bulb planting, wildflower seed scattering, tree planting, and much more.

Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is on site to assist with the planting of hundreds of bluebells.  This is in an effort to create a new Bluebell haven in Tamworth.  Other special species to be planted include snowdrops and Snake’s Head Fritillary.

Cllr Robert Pritchard Said, “I encourage as many people as possible to come and get involved in making their open space more attractive.  The BMX track has been more popular than we ever hoped it would be and it is the community that has made track a success.”

He added, “A nice part of the activity day and making a Bluebell haven in the area.  So if you like bluebells, please spare and hour and help create Tamworth’s newest bluebell haven,”

The Activity Day will culminate with the planting of a Royal Oak sapling, this special sapling donated by the Woodlands Trust that has been grown from an acorn off a royal estate.

For those who what to get involved in BMX, there will also be demonstrations from Tamworth BMX Club.  Budding BMX enthusiasts can sign up with the club or ask questions about BMX in general.

Tamworth community safety partnership will also be providing security advice from the police hub on site.

Joy Goodall, Deputy Chairman of the Belgrave Residents Association said, “This activity days follows on from a successful activity day in April which resulted in over 300 bushes/trees and 600 bulbs being planted on site.  Public turnout was great and we hope for similar numbers again”

The site is next to the entrance of Torc campus (off Deltic) on the open space is in-between Birds Bush Road, Silverlink Road and Fossdale Road.

Residents are asked to wear suitable clothing for the activity and residents can drop in any time during the session.
