Conservative Party Holds Both By-Elections in Fazeley
The Conservative Party held both by-elections fought in Fazeley today after a hard fought campaign.
The two by-elections for the vacant Fazeley ward seat on Lichfield District Council and the vacant seat on Fazeley Town Council were straight fights between the Conservative Party and Labour Party and, despite the Labour Party appearing to be ahead in national poles, the residents of Fazeley chose to stick with the Conservative Party.
Doug Pullen, who fought for the vacant District Council seat, won by 48 votes polling 423 to Labour’s 375 and Alex Farrell won the vacant Town Council seat by 16 votes after a recount with 389 votes to 373.
A representative for the Conservative Party in Tamworth said, “Today’s results in Fazeley prove that the majority support the hard work being carried out by the Conservative Party in both Fazeley and across Lichfield. Doug and Alex have both worked none stop knocking doors and delivering the Party message since the election was called at the beginning of May.
“We are celebrating tonight, but both of our new councillors know that their work begins in earnest tomorrow when they take on their respective rolls on Lichfield District Council and Fazeley Town Council.”
Cllr Andrew James, who leads the Conservative group on Fazeley Town Council added, “In holding the vacant seat on the Town Council, we know that the people of Fazeley support what the Conservative Party has done since taking control in 2007.
“Our share of the council tax has been frozen for the last five years, we have invested in the refurbishment of the Town Hall, worked jointly with Lichfield District Council to bring a first class BMX track to the town and part funded the local Space scheme and the youth club in Mile Oak for the good of the town’s young people. Long may this continue and I look forward to Alex joining us on the Town Council.”
