Christopher Pincher Welcomes 1700 New Jobs at Jaguar Land Rover

Thursday, September 12th, 2013

Jaguar-Land-RoverTamworth’s MP, Christopher Pincher, has welcomed the news that Solihull based car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover has announced 1700 new jobs as part of their £1.5bn expansion plan.

This latest round of job creation brings the total number of new jobs to 11,000 in the past three years.  Before the last general election there was a real threat that JLR might close operations in the Midlands.  But the firm, like the economy, is now growing.

Mr Pincher, said, “This is great news for our regional economy and adds to the picture that the economy is looking up, not just in services but also in the high end engineering markets with 11,000 new jobs being created alone at JLR.  I hope Tamworth residents are able to take advantage of these new jobs and that more local employees will join me at my jobs fair to get more local people into jobs continuing the downward trend of local unemployment, now at its lowest since 2008.”

In other good news, Tamworth’s jobless figures fell last month by 29.  The number of people out of work stands at 2.8% of the local workforce.  Mr Pincher hopes his next Jobs Fair on 12th October will play a part in driving down unemployment still further.
