Christopher Pincher Signs Knife-Crime Amendment

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Member of Parliament for Tamworth, Christopher Pincher, has signed his Conservative colleague, Nick de Bois’ ‘knife crime amendment’ to the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill.   This amendment, if included in the Bill, will ensure that anyone under 18 that threatens or endangers another person with a knife must face a mandatory six-month prison sentence.

Mr Pincher commented:

“It is very important that the Coalition Government supports local residents in calling for tougher punishments for serious crimes.  In Tamworth we are fortunate that we do not have a significant degree of knife crime.  However, in my colleague Nick de Bois’ constituency in Enfield in London there have been ten fatal stabbings since 2008 (the most recent was killed by a minor), and unfortunately similar levels are found elsewhere every week.   We must work hard to reduce the terrible threat and ensure knife criminals do not get off lightly.   If they feel that they are ‘man enough’ to wield a knife then they should be man enough to face the consequences.”
